Makeda Johannes DNP(c), LMSW


Board Member

Makeda Johannes is a licensed and trained social worker, Makeda holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Columbia University, with a concentration in Advanced Clinical Practice and a focus on health, mental health, and disabilities. Throughout her extensive career, Makeda
has applied her expertise to support families involved in the child welfare system, facilitate group workshops, and provide individual counseling services. Her impactful work in the community has twice earned her the New York City Mayoral Service Recognition Award for her contributions to Project Petals, where she serves as a Senior Community Outreach Advisor and Board Advisory member.

Additionally, Makeda has a dedication to empowering those from marginalized communities and drives her strides for continuous professional development. She is currently a PHD degree candidate in the Columbia University School of Nursing pursuing a  Doctorate of Nursing Practice to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.  Her academic prowess and dedication to mental wellness underscore her expertise and commitment to supporting her clients health and wellness needs, particularly in understanding systems, the climate crisis, and its impact on mental health.
