Volunteer Coordinator and Event intern

Learn about the planning and execution of community event days and volunteer retention by working closely with the founder and social media intern. In addition, you will be growing our database of Project Petals interns.

  • Work with corporate, social, civic and community organizations to develop partnerships to recruit volunteers
  • Maintain volunteer database for tracking information, hours, roles and event participation
  • Send volunteers information about organization
  • Maintain ongoing communication with volunteers including social media and bi-weekly emails
  • Schedule volunteers based on event and venue needs
  • Update and communicate with event staff and senior staff on volunteer related issues
  • Assess volunteer satisfaction, and develop and implement initiatives designed to improve volunteer experience and retention
  • Codify and update all current volunteer processes
  • Assist in posting to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in addition to content creation create and execute volunteer recruitment plan, incentives and outreach strategies
  • Create welcome packets for volunteers and online sign-in sheets and recruitment forms

This is an unpaid internship, but you can receive school credit where applicable.

Gardening expert

Do you have a green thumb? Then this volunteer position is perfect for you! Help grow, educate and care for our open garden projects. You’ll volunteer with our local project leaders to help facilitate gardening days and lead gardening classes.

  • Facilitate gardening instruction at sites located in Harlem, Queens or Brooklyn
  • Participate in maintaining garden facilities, caring for equipment, garden planning, planting and pruning when necessary
  • Give recommendations on best gardening practices to preserve the life and care for gardens
  • Cultivate communication and relationships with Project Petals staff, in addition to the communities that we work
  • Recommend gardening plants and tools for gardening site

Social Media Intern

We are currently looking for a Social Media Intern to:

  • Post to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in addition to content creation
  • Assist with basic research as needed in order to engage the online community and to investigate any trending activities; increase followers and online engagement.
  • Monitor social media outlets for potential story ideas and leads
  • Contribute to campaign, news outlet and project launch strategies
  • Assist in creating content (including imagery) that meets monthly goals based on analysis of each outlet

This is an unpaid internship, but you can receive school credit where applicable.
